Okay, so all the other reviews at this point in time show 5 stars. Sounds like these must be the best speakers on the net. Having bought them I'm wondering what made the other reviewers hand out such high praise. Then I looked into the reviewers themselves and discovered that they're handing out 5 stars on pretty much everything they review. So do these speakers warrant 5 stars? No. I bought them to replace a similarly cheap Logitech set that had two satellite tweeters and a bass unit which went pop after about 9 years. These Hercules cannot compare in sound quality to the Logitech. They have a relatively thin sound. They don't deal with bass very well and they certainly don't fill a room. I bought them to sit on my desk with the desktop. I think I'll probably give them over to the laptop and buy something else to go on the desk. I might use them when I travel. They're relatively light, and smaller than I'd imagined. Also, having a built in power supply is a bonus for portability. They deal pretty well with music that's gentle and all in the middle. Vocals are reasonable, acoustic guitar is good, but once you start putting something more full through them they really show the price bracket, weight and size. They seem to squash everything together and flatten it all out. They've improved as they've warmed up over the first couple of weeks (as all speakers do) but they're still falling short of 5 stars. Bear in mind that you have to have your computer (or chosen music player) output set to maximum volume and then control the speaker volume using the knob. If you turn the source volume down then the amp in the speakers will ruin your music as it tries to crank it back up to listening volume. Having said all that I know I'm not looking at an expensive set of speakers, and when I remind myself how much I spent on them I realise they're really not bad for a fraction of the price of the Bose equivalent. So they definitely deserve a solid 3 stars - but really not 5!

These HERCULES XPS 2.0 10 Gloss Speakers very very definitely rate 10 out of 10. In my opinion they represent amazingly good value. The sound quality is really superb,with individual instruments of a band clearly audible,whilst vocals are given a real depth of sound. And very definitely,the volume is more than adequate for the most discerning listener. The booklet that comes with the Speakers gave a 'help line' telephone number which I had cause to use. I cannot praise too highly the sheer quality of the person that I spoke with. "Robert" was his name,and he simply could not have been more helpful; I then received an email from HERCULES with further guidance. This is a really superb service backing a superb produce. I recommend these HERCULES speakers unreservedly,with a technical help line that beggers belief!
